Drawing Therapy Journals and Workbooks
No right or wrong answers... Just your feelings.
Once upon a time, a lady who cared very much about people wrote a book. This book is called,
"Heal Yourself," and it was written for people who think they might benefit from therapy, but
maybe aren't quite ready to go sharing with another person, or maybe they just need a little help
getting started. This workbook covers 50 varied topics (anger, sleep, food, history, relationships,
childhood, stress...) and gives each topic 2 pages, asking therapy-type questions and then leaving
space for pondering and writing the answers.
The lady who wrote the book also loved children very much, adn so she created the same type of
workbook, but especially for the kids. This one is called, "Draw Your Feelings Out," and it covers 30
topics (friends, school, family...) and at the top of the page it asks, "How do you feel about..." and then
names the topic. Then, it has 2 pages of blank space for the child to DRAW their answer to how they
feel. Because sometimes... it's just hard to find the right words. And some kiddos aren't old enough to
write, but they still have a lot of feelings and things going on inside them.
From the drawing workbook came a great idea -- a journal! Everybody knows the benefits of
keeping a journal, but on a regular, blank journal, well, that's a lot of blankness just waiting for
you to come up with something to fill it. This journal is for everybody - adults or kids, and it's
called, "Today I Feel... a Drawing Therapy Journal." It works just like a regular journal -
you pick it up each day, or whenever you feel like it, but then... the top of the pages asks, "How
do you feel today?" and then... lots of space to draw out your daily journal entry on how you
feel. Draw a picture, doodle, or even write. This makes a great daily therapeutic way to express
feelings, but also opens up so many creative options for expressing your feelings.
Then this lady met some people who seemed kind of lost. After doing some good hard listening, and
some research, she decided to write a workbook just for these people - because she found out there
were a lot of people with the same feelings. She called this workbook, "Find Yourself." It works a
little bit like "Heal Yourself," asking questions and leaving space for writing out answers, and it helps
to really think about who you are now, who you want to be, and how to get from start to finish and
make changes to really figure out, "What do you want to be?"
Once the lady saw how much everyone loved the "Today I Feel..." drawing journals, she decided to make them
special for different people in different stages of life. So she came up with these (below). All the insides are the same
- every page/day asks you, "How do you feel today?" and then leaves you lots of room to draw out how you feel.
If you want to digitally "flip" through the
book or see the inside, you can check
